I'm very excited to release this limited edition print for several personal reasons. Mostly because this is the first time I've used both Eastern and Western printing techniques in the same image. The sky, tree, and distant land masses are printed using water based pigment, while the rock formation is printed with oil based pigments. Together these two mediums create an interesting effect of transparency and opacity printed on beautiful handmade washi from Japan. This print was made using a single block of shina plywood reduced down 15 times until completion. I used a traditional hon baren and an etching press to make this print. The inspiration for this design comes from a famous rock climb in the Gunks known as "The Dangler".
